If you are considering balayage in Etobicoke, knowing the price is only the beginning. You also want to understand what is possible for your hair, how long your appointment will take and what maintenance will suit your routine.
At Dory’s Designs Beauty Studio, at 850 Browns Line in Etobicoke, Toronto, I personalize every service around your hair and your expectations. Balayage starts at $450 CAD, a standard appointment usually takes three to five hours, and the process begins with a free consultation.

What is balayage, and how do I personalize it?
Balayage is a colouring technique that creates dimension, brightness and soft transitions between tones. The placement of the highlights allows me to create a result tailored to each person.
Before choosing your colour, I consider your natural base, haircut, length and texture. We also discuss your lifestyle and how much time you want to spend maintaining your hair.
My goal is to balance the look you want with what your hair can support. That is why I adapt the tones and techniques to your needs rather than repeat the same design on every client.
Who is balayage suitable for?
Balayage can be adapted to different hair lengths, textures and styles. It can create subtle dimension or a brighter transformation, depending on your starting point and the condition of your hair.
During your consultation, we can explore whether you would like to:
- Add brightness without changing your entire colour.
- Create dimension with natural-looking transitions.
- Soften the contrast between your base and lighter sections.
- Blend some grey hairs with strategically placed highlights.
For grey blending, the goal may be to help the greys blend into the overall colour. This does not necessarily mean covering every grey hair with permanent colour. We discuss the design and your expectations individually.
How do I assess your hair before the service?
The condition of your hair is my priority before any chemical service. During the assessment, I consider its strength, elasticity, porosity and colour history.
Please tell me if you have used box dye, permanent colour, bleach or other chemical treatments. This information helps me evaluate how your hair may respond to lightening and whether any colour correction may be necessary.
If your hair is compromised, I may recommend postponing the service, adjusting your colour goal or choosing another option. I prefer to explain the possibilities from the beginning so we can make an informed decision together.
How much does balayage in Etobicoke cost with Dory?
At Dory’s Designs Beauty Studio, balayage starts at $450 CAD. The usual range is $450 to $550 CAD, depending on the work your hair requires.
The service includes:
- The main colour service.
- Toner to refine your shade.
- A root blend when needed.
- Professional products such as Olaplex and Metal Detox.
- Treatment based on your hair’s needs.
- Final styling.
A haircut is charged separately.
Your final price depends on your hair’s length, density, colour history and desired result. Thick hair or a brighter transformation may require more time, product and technical work.
When a service requires considerably more time or approximately twice the amount of product, an additional charge of $100 to $150 CAD may apply. The usual price range should therefore not be treated as a guaranteed maximum.
Extensive colour correction is assessed and quoted separately. If your service requires additional work, I will explain it before we begin.
How long does a balayage appointment take?
For a standard balayage appointment, allow three to five hours. The time can vary depending on your colour history and the complexity of the design.
We begin by assessing your hair and discussing your desired result. I then select the tones and highlight placement. The service continues with the colour work, toner, any necessary treatments and final styling.
This time allows me to give your design the attention it needs. During the consultation, we can also discuss reference photos and how to adapt that inspiration to your hair.
If colour correction is needed, we will discuss how it may affect the appointment time and overall plan before proceeding.
How long does balayage last, and what maintenance is needed?
The time between full services depends on the design, your hair’s growth, the colour contrast and your preferences.
Some clients can maintain their balayage for several months or, in certain cases, up to a year before repeating the full service. This does not mean going a year without hair care or guaranteeing that the tone will stay the same.
Maintenance may include toning or treatments, depending on how your hair changes over time. We assess this individually, considering both the appearance of your colour and the condition of your hair.
For me, a personalized design also considers how you will feel about your colour as it grows out.

Can I get balayage if I have used box dye or need colour correction?
Your colour history needs to be assessed before confirming the service. Dark pigments, bands of colour and uneven tones may require additional steps.
In some cases, colour correction may be needed before or as part of your balayage plan. The approach depends on your previous colour, the condition of your hair and the result you want to achieve.
Tell me which products you have used and when you last had a chemical service. Together with an assessment of your hair, this helps us discuss a realistic goal and provide a personalized quote.
Extensive colour corrections are quoted separately from a standard balayage appointment.
